Protein is a key component in building, maintaining and repairing the tissues of the body. A large composition of cartilage, muscle, skin and hair is protein. Protein helps to carry oxygen using the blood to various parts of the body. The body’s metabolism is controlled by protein. Protein makes anti-bodies which helps fight diseases. There are two major types of protein; simple protein and conjugated proteins.
The immune system deals with all levels of toxic every day. The artificial sweeteners and bad fats that we eat do not nourish the body , but rather, are products that needs to be eliminated. Foods that are nourishing to the body include protein, carbohydrates, fiber and fats.
Protein take a high rank among the much needed food on the food chart as it is helps build the immune system of the body. According to www,thebody.com (2008), the body must be replenished daily with high quality protein, “Generous amounts of high quality protein are important for maintaining rapid production of cells to support the immune system, preventing loss of lean muscle mass and boosting energy.”. Protein contain amino acids which make up the building blocks of the body. High quality protein include beans, legumes and tofu for vegetarians and meat and fish for meat lovers.
According to a research done at Penn State University, posted in the ScienceDaily, 2007, scientists found that low protein over time can lead to severe autoimmune diseases such as colitis, multiple sclerosis and arthritis.
In conclusion, sufficient intake of protein helps to eliminate a major epidemic today, obesity. Protein helps to ward off hunger pangs. According to Proteins are Essential to Life, 2006, “ Despite, or perhaps because of, unprecedented levels of obesity in the US and many European countries, consumer interest in health and wellbeing is growing. This includes a nutritious start to life, an active lifestyle and full and quick recovery from any illness. All of these can be aided by proteins, one of the fundamental building blocks of
human health.”
